I'm not racist against minorities.

I have Black friends, hispanic friends, asian friends, etc. In fact, probably one of the, if not THE hottest girl in my school is hispanic. We were talking about it at lunch the other day.

I'm not racist against minorities, I just think that they shouldn't have laws to require that minorities be given jobs due to their ethnic background/sex.

My parents have shown racist qualities, as they all have. My mom isn't racist at all, really, but quotes like these make one wonder, My mom:

That's an extreme example, but a true one in the least.

I just don't like the quota aspect of AA. It basically says that, if you have 10% minorities in the community from which you draw your employees, you are REQUIRED BY LAW TO HIRE 1 minority person for every 10 people! The US Government will get you into big doo-doo if you don't comply. And that's the major problem.

And with the NASA internship, on the application, they say RIGHT OUT: "We're especially interested in minority applicants."

And all the pictures from previous years all show mainly female, mainly minority people. No white people whatsoever. And that's gay.

As for learning a language. It's not so hard as you might imagine. If you are placed in a foreign-language situation, you WILL LEARN it out of plain necessity. My Spanish teacher said he's taken kids to Spain with him, and while they're not too good in the classroom, when it gets down to it they speak Spanish because they have to. Like a female friend of mine who attends a boarding school is around Korean kids who speak Korean to each other, and after a few months of being around them, she picked up a little korean, albeit a little, but nevertheless. I have a friend whose first language is Hungarian. His family speaks it at home, and it's really weird to go there, because they don't talk ANY English. A neighbour walks up and they greet them in Hungarian, then remember that no one but them speaks it. It's amazing that Steve (Istvn actually) doesn't have a horrible hungarian accent.

The only real way to LEARN a language is to go to a place where they speak it and LIVE there, because you learn stuff because you have to. You can't really learn how to speak a language in a classroom. Sure, I know a lot of academic Spanish. I can do writing assignments without hardly thinking about it, and maybe having to look up 2 words out of 200. But conversational? Speaking it? I'm mediocre at best. I mean, I understand what people say to me , but I can't rapidly come up with a response most of the time. Sometimes it's quite obvious, but when I get asked something with a little twist, it's hard to just wing it without thinking about it.

So, yes, if you went to China and lived for a year, you bet your ass you would know some Mandarin.

It's tough to learn a language like Chinese especially because of the symbols. It's the same way with Russian because of the Cyrillic alphabet (= confusing breadcrust letters). Out of annoyance, I've learned how to pronounce any word written in Cyrillic, but it does me no good as the word holds no meaning. I don't think Cyrillic was well crafted. Greek is a little better alphabet, and pronunciation/reading is eased a little bit.

I'm not racist really. Only when a Black person continually say "Dey was" instead of "They were" or "How much is dat worf?" instead of "How much is that worth?" it makes me annoyed. And when, midday Sunday, when the Taco Bell parking lot is jammed, and there are two empty parking spots, and right in front of you, a black guy with 5 children parks his beater pick-up truck smack in the centre of the 2 parking spots, it makes you realise why so many people don't like them. As for my own disposition in general toward minorities, I don't discriminate or look down upon someone because they are a different colour. My intentions are pure, and therefore I cannot be prejudiced against someone who has done me no wrong. I know some right fine black guys, who are really cool, nice, and smart, and I respect them for that.
